Protecting Children. Preserving Fairness. Advancing Accountability.
Family court decisions can shape a child’s safety, relationships, and daily life for years. Families deserve a system that takes those consequences seriously, examines evidence carefully, and gives people a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
Solutions for Family Court Reform, LLC advocates for practical improvements that protect children, support safe family relationships, and strengthen due process. Our work is focused on solutions that serve mothers, fathers, and children alike.
The issue:
Children’s needs can become overshadowed by conflict between adults. Decisions involving abuse, neglect, or domestic violence require careful attention to safety, reliable evidence, and each child’s circumstances.
The solution we support:
Stronger evidence-informed assessments and training in domestic violence, coercive control, and child development. Children should have developmentally appropriate ways to be heard without being pressured to choose sides. Parenting arrangements should reflect demonstrated risks and individual needs, not assumptions about either parent.
The issue:
Emergencies may require immediate protective action before everyone can be heard. Restrictions can also have lasting consequences when review is delayed or a person cannot meaningfully respond.
The solution we support:
Preserve access to urgent protection while ensuring prompt review, appropriate notice, and a fair opportunity to present and challenge evidence. Significant restrictions should have clear reasons, defined terms, and appropriate review procedures. Protecting safety and protecting due process should work together.
The issue:
Knowingly fabricated allegations can harm children, separate families, damage reputations, and divert attention from genuine abuse. An allegation that is dismissed, unproven, or unsupported by sufficient evidence is not automatically a false allegation.
The solution we support:
Careful investigation and proportionate accountability when a fair process establishes knowing fabrication. We support evaluating remedies such as correction of affected records, review of orders based on fabricated evidence, and appropriate recovery of resulting costs or attorney fees. Any remedy should require clear standards and safeguards for good-faith reporting. These are reform proposals, not a promise that relief is available in every case.
The issue:
Prolonged separation and unjustified interference with safe parent-child relationships can disrupt a child’s stability. At the same time, limiting contact may be necessary when there is a genuine safety risk. A child’s reluctance to see a parent must be explored carefully, not automatically labeled manipulation or alienation.
The solution we support:
Timely, individualized decisions based on evidence. Continuing restrictions should receive appropriate review, with understandable reasons and clear next steps. Where safe, parenting arrangements should preserve meaningful relationships and address unjustified interference. Restoring contact should never take priority over a child’s safety.
The issue:
Complicated procedures, the cost of representation, language barriers, and disabilities can make it difficult for people to participate effectively in their own cases.
The solution we support:
More accessible legal assistance, plain-language forms, qualified interpreters, disability accommodations, and clear procedural information. Remote participation should be available where appropriate and safe. A person’s ability to present relevant evidence should not depend solely on their financial resources.
The issue:
Expert opinions can significantly influence parenting decisions. Families need to understand the qualifications, methods, information considered, and limitations behind those recommendations.
The solution we support:
Relevant professional qualifications, transparent methods, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and appropriate consideration of records and collateral sources. Reports should separate verified facts, reported claims, observations, and professional opinions. Parties should have a fair opportunity to challenge conclusions, while protecting children and confidential information.
The issue:
Families need to understand why decisions were made, which evidence supported them, and how to seek review or raise concerns about misconduct. Disagreement with a ruling alone does not establish bias or misconduct.
The solution we support:
Clear written findings for significant decisions, consistent recordkeeping, accessible review procedures, and fair investigation of substantiated misconduct concerns. Privacy-protecting reporting on delays and access to services can help identify where improvements are needed without exposing children’s identities.
The issue:
Legal fees, evaluations, supervised visits, and other required services can place substantial pressure on families. Unclear financial obligations can create additional conflict and make compliance difficult.
The solution we support:
Transparent fee disclosures, itemized billing, clear financial orders, and accessible procedures for questioning inaccuracies. Courts and service providers should have workable options for addressing financial hardship so that necessary safeguards do not become impossible financial barriers.
TURN CONCERN INTO CHANGE
Meaningful reform requires more than identifying problems. It requires listening to families, reviewing evidence, engaging qualified professionals, and developing practical proposals that lawmakers and courts can evaluate.
