RESOURCES FOR PEOPLE FACING DOMESTIC-VIOLENCE ALLEGATIONS

Florida and National Legal Help, Civil Rights, Accountability and Support

Contact information reviewed October 24, 2026.

These resources serve different purposes. Inclusion does not mean an organization specializes in defending false allegations, has endorsed this website, or will accept a particular case. A dismissed petition or unsuccessful allegation does not, by itself, establish knowing fabrication.

If you have been served with an injunction petition, criminal charge or court notice, seek legal advice promptly. Follow existing orders unless a court changes them. Complaints to agencies, legislators or disciplinary bodies do not replace a court response or appeal and should not be relied on to extend deadlines. Government correspondence may become public records; avoid sending unnecessary confidential information.

LEGAL HELP IN FLORIDA

  1. The Florida Bar — Lawyer Referral Service
Helps people locate attorneys. Ask about defense of domestic-violence injunctions, criminal defense, family law or appeals, depending on your needs.
Address: 651 E. Jefferson Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-2300
    Phone: 800-342-8011
    Referral website: https://www.floridabar.org/public/lrs/
    Contact directory: https://www.floridabar.org/about/contact/
The service advertises an initial 30-minute consultation for no more than $25. Further representation is separate; this is not a pro bono service.
  2. Florida Law Help
Statewide legal information and a directory of legal-aid providers.
    Website: https://www.floridalawhelp.org/
Find local offices, addresses and intake contacts: https://www.floridalawhelp.org/find-provider
Eligibility and services vary. Ask whether the provider represents respondents in injunction proceedings; do not assume it does.
  3. Florida Free Legal Answers
Eligible users can submit civil legal questions to volunteer attorneys online. Criminal matters are excluded.
    Legal questions and eligibility: https://florida.freelegalanswers.org/
    Site-administration email: floridafreelegalanswers@floridabar.org
Administrator: The Florida Bar, 651 E. Jefferson Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-2300
Submit legal questions through the website, not the administration email. Brief advice does not guarantee continuing representation or a response before a deadline.
  4. Florida Courts — Self-Help Information
Approved family-law forms, procedural information and local self-help centers.
Administrative address: 500 South Duval Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-1925
    Forms-assistance phone: 850-921-0004
    Email: selfhelp@flcourts.org
    Website: https://www.flcourts.gov/Services/Family-Courts/self-help-information
    Local centers: https://help.flcourts.gov/Self-Help-Centers-Near-You
Staff cannot give legal advice, select a legal strategy or interpret an order. Contact the clerk where your case is filed for local filing procedures.

JUDICIAL AND ATTORNEY ACCOUNTABILITY

  1. Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission — JQC
Reviews alleged misconduct by Florida state judges.
Mailing address: P.O. Box 14106, Tallahassee, FL 32317
    Phone: 850-488-1581
    General-information email: contact@floridajqc.com
    Website: https://floridajqc.com/
    Complaint instructions: https://floridajqc.com/complaint-form/
Complaints require the prescribed form with an original signature sent by U.S. mail. Complaints are NOT accepted by email, fax or telephone. The JQC cannot overturn a ruling, intervene in a case, remove a judge from your case or provide legal advice.
  2. The Florida Bar — Attorney/Consumer Assistance Program
Information about lawyer conduct and the attorney-disciplinary process.
Address: 651 E. Jefferson Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-2300
    Phone: 866-352-0707 or 850-561-5673
    Website: https://www.floridabar.org/public/acap/
Complaint form and submission instructions: https://www.floridabar.org/public/acap/filing-a-complaint/
Telephone staff provide information but do not take complaints by phone. A disciplinary complaint is not a court appeal, and the Bar does not become your attorney.

FLORIDA GOVERNMENT AND LEGISLATIVE CONTACTS

  1. Florida Attorney General — Office of Citizen Services
Receives inquiries and complaints within the office’s responsibilities and provides referrals.
Address: Office of the Attorney General, The Capitol PL-01, Tallahassee, FL 32399-1050
    Phone: 850-414-3990
    Florida fraud hotline: 866-966-7226
    Email: citizenservices@myfloridalegal.com
    Website: https://www.myfloridalegal.com/
    Complaint information: https://www.myfloridalegal.com/how-to-contact-us/file-a-complaint
The Attorney General does not provide private individuals with legal advice or serve as their defense attorney.

State executive-branch concerns, policy feedback and constituent inquiries.

    Phone: 850-717-9337
    Contact form: https://www.flgov.com/eog/leadership/people/ron-desantis/contact
    Website: https://www.flgov.com/
Legislators and executive offices are not appellate courts and cannot substitute for a legal challenge to a judgment.

    Website: https://www.lawhelp.org/
    Website-support email: support@lawhelp.org
    Contact information: https://www.lawhelp.org/contact-us
Use the directory to find local intake contacts. The support mailbox does not provide legal advice or representation.

CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES

  1. ACLU of Florida
Civil-liberties advocacy and selected legal matters involving government conduct.
Mailing address: 4343 W. Flagler Street, Suite 400, Miami, FL 33134
    Legal-help instructions: https://www.aclufl.org/publications/how-to-get-legal-help/
    Contact page: https://www.aclufl.org/contact-us/
Follow the current online legal-help instructions. Do not visit seeking legal assistance or mail case documents. No general legal-intake telephone or email is provided here because a current one could not be verified. Press contacts are not legal-help contacts.
  2. American Civil Liberties Union — National Office
National civil-liberties advocacy; legal-help requests are generally directed to local affiliates.

Contact does not guarantee representation or create an attorney-client relationship.
  3. ACLU of the District of Columbia
Local civil-liberties affiliate serving matters within its Washington, DC scope, not a general intake office for Florida family cases.
Address: 529 14th Street NW, Suite 420, Washington, DC 20045

Reports concerning violations of federal civil-rights laws.
Mailing address: U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, 950 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20530-0001
    Phone: 202-514-3847 or 855-856-1247
    TTY/TDD: 711
    Online report: https://civilrights.justice.gov/
    Contact information: https://www.justice.gov/crt/contact-us-0
A report is not an appeal, does not change a court order, and does not guarantee investigation or representation. Follow the portal’s instructions for the type of conduct being reported.

FLORIDA FEDERAL COURTHOUSES

Federal court clerks provide procedural and filing information, not legal advice or representation. A federal lawsuit is not simply another appeal from a state family-court decision. Do not send private case correspondence directly to judges or assume that emailing a clerk constitutes filing.
